Project Angel Food prepares and delivers over one million medically tailored meals each year, free of charge to homes of men, women, and children affected by life-threatening illnesses. Declared an essential service during the COVID-19 pandemic by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Project Angel Food has expanded to meet the moment and the need throughout Los Angeles County to deliver medically tailored meals and nutritional counseling services to more than 2,300 people per day. This is an increase of 54% from our pre-pandemic numbers.
Under the care of Project Angel Food’s registered dietitians, and in consultation with each client’s primary healthcare case manager, clients receive one-on-one nutritional counseling and a customized menu that is designed to meet the unique needs of their diagnosis and aligned with their personal dietary restrictions and preferences. Currently, the Project Angel Food kitchen creates 39 variations of each menu.
Project Angel Food was born in response to the HIV/AIDS epidemic, and then expanded our mission in 2004 to include clients living with cancer, heart failure, diabetes, kidney disease, and a wide range of health issues. Our goal is to our neighbors who are struggling with the multiple challenges of food insecurity, isolation, and their critical illness. Every month we prepare and deliver over 90,000 meals to people in need from Metro, South and East LA, to Pomona, La Mirada, and Long Beach, and to the remote town of Antelope Valley. Since 1989, we have served over 13 million meals and counting, following our motto: For Life. For Love. For as Long as it Takes.
Project Angel Food prepares and delivers healthy meals to feed people impacted by serious illness, bringing comfort and hope every day.
A world where every sick person is fed, nourished and loved.
