Project Angel Food Hosts 28th Annual Angel Awards Gala Honoring Debra Messing and Chaz Dean

Categories: Press Releases, Uncategorized

Project Angel Food is proud to announce that long-time supporter and star of NBC’s Will & Grace, Debra Messing, will receive the Founder’s Award, presented by Will & Grace executive producers and creators David Kohan and Max Mutchnick at the 28th Annual Angel Awards Gala on Saturday, August 18, 2018. Additionally, entrepreneur and celebrity hair stylist Chaz Dean will receive the Corporate Leadership Award.

Transforming the parking lot into a dazzling venue “under the stars”, Project Angel Food’s 28th Annual Angel Awards Gala will take place on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at their headquarters located at 922 Vine Street, Los Angeles, CA 90038.

Both Messing and Dean have been supporters and champions of Project Angel Food for many years now.  Messing has generously donated her time and was an early advocate as Project Angel Food fed thousands living with HIV/AIDS. She continually supported the Angel Awards and Divine Design events throughout the years and has generously participated in on-set meet & greets with Project Angel Food donors, helping raise significant funds for the organization. Dean has donated time in the kitchen and is a longtime supporter of the organization. He recently sponsored a van for delivery services, and knowing his face would be featured on the van he also wanted his ‘angels’, his dogs to be seen as well. Bringing a smile to whoever encountered the van is a perfect example of the synergy behind Project Angel Food’s volunteers and the environment.

The Angel Awards Gala transforms Project Angel Food’s headquarters into a spectacular space, bringing a little extra sparkle to the eye. From the food and beverages to the exhilarating décor and stunning entertainment, the night is so special that it is always considered a highlight of the summer calendar. The Angel Awards menu will be created and prepared by RockSugar Southeast Asian Kitchen Executive Chef, Mohan Ismail. Chef Mohan is a graduate of New York’s French Culinary Institute, and has cooked at the James Beard House in NYC. He was featured at the Aspen Food & Wine Classic, Food & Wine Magazine’s Taste of Beverly Hills, Los Angeles Food and Wine Festival and the Food Network Channel where he beat chef Bobby Flay on his hit show, “Beat Bobby Flay.”

While the glitz and glamour of the event are memorable, the evening also reflects on why Project Angel Food continues to be such a successful organization. Angel Awards is Project Angel Food’s premier fundraiser and all the proceeds go directly toward operating costs, purchasing food, fuel and other essential supplies to cook, package and deliver free, nutritious meals all over Los Angeles County.  Broadway star Sheryl Lee Ralph, a Project Angel Food Trustee, will pay tribute to “Angels Among Us,” in recognition of clients, volunteers and supporters who are now with us in spirit.

The evening will open with a performance by the Urban Voices Project, a choir composed of artists and performers from Skid Row, bringing the healing power of music directly to individuals disenfranchised by homelessness, mental health issues, and unemployment in the Greater Los Angeles area.

Since 1989, Project Angel Food has prepared 11 million meals and delivers 11,000 meals a week to men, women and children living with critical illnesses. Project Angel Food follows its mission daily, “bringing comfort and hope every day” by delivering healthy, nutritious meals throughout the 4,400 square miles of LA County. Project Angel Food’s staff and volunteers prepare meals for people living with HIV/AIDS, cancer, kidney failure, diabetes, congestive heart disease and other illnesses. All the funds raised throughout the years from the events put on by Project Angel Food and the generous donations continue to help provide love and meals to people in need.
